Google Input Tools lets you communicate with friends or family in over 150 languages. Given the sheer complexity of natural language processing Google wanted to raise awareness of this remarkable technical feat to internal and external audiences.
 

 

 

Extensive consumer research uncovered an insight that people often speak their native language to the people that are most important to them, and often revert to native language when trying to express themselves with subtlety.

 

 

 

 

To this end, we created a film exploring how people around the world use unique words that are exclusive to their language and culture, and how Google Input Tools understands these differences.

The film was shot with a purposeful low-tech feel, using phone audio recordings and hand-animation using glass layers and manual film cameras. This technique emphasized the real human nature of language and communication.
